Wasini Kisite . Unspoiled, beautiful and sun kissed, the Kisite Marine Park was established to protect the scenic islands and special habitats of a wide range of endemic marine animals and breeding migratory birds. It lies in the coral gardens south of Wasini Island and encompasses three small coral rag forest islands, each with considerable areas of fringing reef. Kisite is one of the most rewarding snorkeling locations at the coast. Visitors can also enjoy bird watching, diving and of course, sunbathing. Kisite marine Park is a home of dolphins.
You will be picked form your hotel in the morning, from north coast will be at 6:00am and from south coast hotels will be at 7:15am. Drive to shimoni village (famous for the caves which were used as shelter for the slaves awaiting for shipment) After marine park formalities we will walk to the jetty for our boat ride to Kisite Marine Park for snorkeling. Wasini Island lies off the southern Indian Ocean coast of Kenya next to Shimoni. It is approximately 5km long and 1km across.
The Island is sparsely populated and undeveloped. There are no cars or roads. The island is next to the Kisite-Mpunguti Marine National Park. A site of early Swahili civilization, its attractions include exposed coral reefs.The coral island is occupied by the Vumba people(an indigenous group of the Niger Congo, Bantu speaking dialect who have a rich history, they speak Swahili and kivumba, a number of about 1500, Women groups in the island have established wasini island nature walk in the beautiful coral gardens of wasini. The proceeds help the needy wasini students
After about 2 hours of snorkeling and dolphin watching. you will sail to Wasini island restaurant for lunch (Sea food lunch) fish, crabs, rice cooked on coconut milk and (Lobster – at extra cost) After lunch you will cross the channel to Shimoni mainland. Optionally you can visit the slave caves if you wish at extra cost. Your transport will take you back to your hotel.
